Welcome to my website. Please make yourself at home, and come back again. There will be more to explore soon. Here you'll find a guide to my new CD, Red Clay Country, and a schedule of my upcoming music dates. I hope to see you at one of them. If you'd like me to perform in your area, please contact me. I'm a newscaster and journalist at NPR, so my time is a bit limited. But I do go quite a few places each year for concerts and workshops. So give me a try, and let's see what we can work out. Paul Brown - "Red Clay Country" 5-String Productions - 5SP06002 I've played old time music since I was a kid. I've recorded with a number of other people in the past, including a duo album with Mike Seeger on Rounder, Way Down in North Carolina. But this new CD on the 5-String label is my first solo effort. It's gotten great reviews. I hope it gets a great one from you too. Take a moment and listen to some of the songs and tunes. Many of them I learned from my mother, Louise Brown. She picked them up as a kid in the 1920s and 1930s in Bedford County, Virginia. You may recognize some of the titles, but each version of a song or tune on this CD is unusual or even unique. Check out the recorded story of the CD and my music. I spoke the liner notes so you could simply relax and listen to the story here. click to play
On this CD I play banjo and fiddle and sing. Mike Seeger, Terri McMurray, John Schwab and Matt Brown join me, playing among them guitar and banjo uke. Each of these musical soul mates does a wonderful job.
